Helping create a pioneering online Food Security course, and international outreach films.

Education + Community Consultancy Content

Taskscape worked with Lancaster Environment Centre on two projects: co-developing an eight-module Food Security MOOC that ran on FutureLearn for around a decade and producing outreach videos for the UK–China Bridge project on sustainability research.

Brief

Lancaster Environment Centre is one of the UK’s largest environmental research centres, combining expertise across ecology, environmental chemistry and atmospheric science. Taskscape was involved in two projects. For the FutureLearn MOOC, Taskscape worked closely with academics to develop curriculum content for an eight-module Food Security course, producing four hours of filmed content, including case studies, expert interviews, and lectures shot across Asia, Africa, and the UK. For the China Bridge project, Taskscape created outreach videos documenting a research and teaching partnership between UK and Chinese institutions focused on sustainability and environmental management.

Activity

  • Provided curriculum development consultancy for the Food Security MOOC
  • Produced four hours of filmed content for the course across three continents, supplemented by explanatory motion graphics
  • Created outreach videos with participants in the UK–China Bridge project

Outcomes

  • The MOOC ran for around a decade on Future Learn, where it was used by thousands of students worldwide
  • China Bridge project films were shared online and played at international events supporting the programme and its sustainability outcomes
