The Guild of St George
Marking overlapping Ruskin anniversaries with web documentaries and a gallery installation.
Taskscape produced a series of web documentaries for the Guild of St George to support campaigns and events marking two overlapping anniversaries connected with the Guild’s founder, John Ruskin.
Brief
The Guild of St George is a charitable organisation founded by John Ruskin in 1871, dedicated to arts, crafts, the rural economy and environmental stewardship. In 2019, the Guild marked two overlapping anniversaries: the bicentenary of Ruskin’s birth (1819–2019) and 150 years since the opening of Ruskin’s St George’s Museum in Walkley, Sheffield. Taskscape was contracted to provide video content for the campaigns and events celebrating these milestones, as well as for the guild website, raising awareness of membership benefits.
Activity
- Produced a series of web-documentary films featuring interviews with Guild members and coverage of key events, buildings, exhibitions and locations
- Created a spin-off video installation in conjunction with Upper Air Films
Outcomes
- Films used online on the Guild’s website and social channels, with additional online premieres for the Guild community
- The video installation secured an online premiere and exhibitions at Ruskin’s Home, Brantwood, Cumbria, and Sheffield Museum Gallery
