As part of the Carlisle Renaissance regeneration programme, Taskscape evaluated the repurposing of redundant buildings in Carlisle city centre for use as cultural venues.

Brief

Carlisle Renaissance was a regeneration initiative led by Carlisle City Council to revitalise the city centre through investment in culture, public realm and economic development. Taskscape was contracted to supply consultancy evaluating the potential of redundant buildings—including the Fisher Street Methodist Hall—for repurposing as cultural spaces.

Activity

  • Conducted stakeholder interviews exploring culture, values and community needs
  • Developed purpose statements and feasibility studies for candidate buildings
  • Provided initial architectural plans through an architect associate
  • Delivered reports and presentations to the council and partners

Outcomes

  • Informed how Carlisle Renaissance approached its programme of redeveloping local culture and heritage assets
