Christ Church Dore

Early-stage feasibility for a church redevelopment twenty years in the making.

Culture + Heritage Consultancy

Taskscape provided consultancy and initial feasibility work to help the Christ Church Dore community in Sheffield begin designing a regeneration programme.

Brief

Christ Church Dore is a Victorian church in the Sheffield suburb of Dore, with a strong congregation and community role. Taskscape was contracted to help the church community begin designing a regeneration programme, exploring how the building could be reordered to support multiple uses while retaining its heritage features.

Activity

  • Conducted a cultural audit with interviews across the community and key stakeholders
  • Delivered strategic analysis and feasibility studies
  • Provided initial design plans through an embedded architect associate

Outcomes

  • Helped shape thinking around a more welcoming entrance, improved circulation and flexible multi-use space
  • Fed into the regeneration plan’s long-term development and launch, which culminated in the ‘Step into the Light’ scheme, with construction beginning in 2024
  • The completed scheme will create adaptable community space, improved accessibility and upgraded facilities within the historic building
