What does a Horizon Europe communication and dissemination partner do?

A communication and dissemination partner joins the consortium, usually as a beneficiary, to lead, co-lead or support the communication, dissemination and exploitation (CDE) work package, or the work package within which this activity sits. That means writing and delivering the communication and dissemination plan (a contractual deliverable), building the project’s identity, website and channels, engaging stakeholders, and monitoring and reporting against KPIs through the project’s review cycle.

What is the difference between communication, dissemination and exploitation?

They are three distinct activities under the Horizon Europe grant agreement. Communication promotes the project and its results to multiple audiences, including the media and the public, throughout the project’s life. Dissemination makes results publicly available to the audiences that can use them, such as researchers, community or industry groups and policy-makers. Exploitation is the use of results for commercial, societal or policy purposes. Consortia must plan and report on all three under their grant agreements.

Can UK organisations join Horizon Europe consortia?

Yes. The UK is associated to Horizon Europe, and UK organisations participate as full beneficiaries with the same rights and funding as EU partners in nearly all calls. Taskscape is registered on the EU Funding & Tenders Portal and has worked in EU framework-programme consortia since 2017.

When should a consortium bring in a communication partner?

Usually at the proposal stage. Horizon Europe consortia and budgets are fixed at grant signature, so a partner not written into the proposal has no funded role to take up later. We help coordinators shape the impact section and design the communication and dissemination work package activities we later deliver. We typically join four to eight weeks before the submission deadline, or earlier.
